Fort Miley

Fort Miley

Sunday, 7 February 2010

It was 58 degrees, sunny and there was almost no wind. So we went back to the Cliff House to restart our walk through Fort Miley that was cut short by the cold last month.

We did not see any coyotes, and if we had, we would not have approached them.

The 49 mile drive would have us walk out on Geary towards downtown, but because we are on foot, we decided to go through the park, and join back up with the auto route near the Palace of the Legion of Honor

The views on the nice trail were spectacular today. The shot below is close to the monument for the cruiser San Francisco.

The 49 mile drive misses this view, too. And much brighter than the same view last month.

The three month old camera had just come back from warranty repair, and I decided to give the telephoto a try.

This time of year, the bay always looks calm.

We turned away from the trail to head uphill to rejoin the 49 mile drive. Here’s one last shot from the trail.

About one hundred yards up the new trail we entered the Lincoln Park Golf Club. The museum is in the right of the photograph.

The golfer has just hit the ball down the fairway. Baker Beach is on the right. We didn’t see anyone swimming, but there were a number of sun bathers. Great view from the tee.

We emerged from this trail into Sea Cliff, and walked along El Camino del Mar up to 25th Avenue, where we turned south to walk back to Geary Boulevard and the 38 bus back to the Cliff House. The bus ran on a part of the 49 mile drive we missed.

Our next leg will be from this spot into the Presidio.

Back to the Cliff House, to work our way through Fort Miley on the way to the Presidio. About half of our walk was not on the 49 mile drive, but through the park and away from Geary Boulevard.
