Land’s End

Land's End

Sunday, 10 January 2010

It was 50 degrees, with the wind coming from the east. It was overcast at home, but we thought we’d take a chance and see if the sun was out at the Cliff House, which was the end of our last segment. Sure enough, the sun was out, but the wind was unpleasant.

On days like this, the cloud movements are different. This picture shows Mount Tamalpais in Marin, with a cloud flowing over it and out to the ocean. Almost any other day, if there is fog, it would move in the opposite direction.

The park entrance is just uphill, less than one hundred yards, from the Cliff House. There is a sign saying there are coyotes in the area, with a warning to not approach them. I guess some people might give that a try.

Behind my back from where the park sign photo was taken is the real world. The parks in San Francisco are very calming, and the scenery is remarkable.

Hunter Thompson had a deadline to finish one of his books, and he checked in to the Seal Rock Inn to finish it. He probably didn’t see the sun or have any distractions this far out.

As we headed down towards Sutro Baths, we saw there has been a lot of work done by volunteers to restore native plants to the area.

Not far down from the park entrance, the sound of waves smashing into the beach caught our attention. Today was supposed to be a big day down at Maverick’s near Half Moon Bay, and from the sound of the waves, they are probably having a great day.

The sun angle and the light cloud cover makes the photos look like old black and white pictures.

The wind was blocked by the hill above the beach, but when we started to go back up the trail, it was into the chilly wind.

We decided to tackle this segment another day, and turned towards downtown.

Here’s a quick look at the where we’ll be going next time.

It was cold, windy and overcast at home. We went across the bridge hoping to see the sun at the Cliff House. When we got there, the waves were really booming.
