Chain Mai, Thailand
Monday–Thursday December 6–9, 2004
This is the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a Buddhist temple established in 1383 The site was selected by a sacred white elephant, which made the climb up to the mountain top—5,500 feet above sea level. It was refreshingly cold up here.
This photograph shows the inside of the temple.
Another view of Doi Suthep. The temple receives many visitors who make the long trek up from Chiang Mai.
Here is a view from our hotel, a few miles north of central Chiang Mai.
We took a bicycle tour through the countryside. Things are quiet out here. Chickens are another important component of Thai food. We also visited the City’s night market and some other temples around the town.
We arrived at Chiang Mai after flights from Siem Reap and Bangkok. We are here to look at more temples, the beautiful countryside and to eat northern Thai food. There is also a German restaurant in town that looks interesting.
Next—a quick visit to Phuket.
