Return, January 2018

Monday, January 15, 2018

We went back to Mexico City for another five days in January 2018. Two good friends accompanied us back to Polanco and the same great hotel we stayed at a year ago.

Walking back to our hotel, we walked inside the aviary in Parque Lincoln. Here is an organ grinder in Polanco near our hotel and a nice building. We spent the afternoon in the area.

Wednesday morning, we went to the Dolores Olmedo Museum, which has nice grounds and a lot of art by Diego Rivera. Here’s a self portrait by Rivera.

Our next stop was Anahuacalli, a museum housing a lot of Diego Rivera’s personal collection of ancient artifacts. It also has the sketches for the never completed murals planned for Rockefeller Center.

Next we visited the City University, which is a World Heritage site.

The next day, we visited the Plaza de las Tres Culturas. Cortez put the first cathedral right next to the site.

Our next stop was the Museo Rufino Tamayo, which had a special exhibit of very old photographs of South America.

The next day, Friday, was our last full day in the City. We spent some time walking around the Centro Historico with our friends.

We also visited the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the nearby famous mural by, yes, Diego Rivera.

In addition we visited the interesting Casa Luis Barragán and took some self-guided walking tours including one around Paseo de la Reforma. We think Mexico City is a fantastic place to visit with much to do and great food.

Tomorrow, Saturday January 20—back to the airport for a flight home.

We flew down to Mexico City on January 15 with friends and visited museums and had great meals at famous restaurants.

Our first stop on Tuesday was the National Anthropological Museum in the park. We only covered half of it last time; this trip we’ll walk through the other half.
