We decided to take a day trip from Kyoto to Nara, a World Heritage Site.
When we arrived at the station in Nara, we set off on foot for Nara Park. There were deer everywhere!
Here is the first big monument we came to, Nandaimon Gate.
This is neaby Todaiji Temple, built in 752. Our guidebook says this is the largest wooden building in the world.
Inside are a number of very large statues. This Buddha is 15 meters/49 feet high.
Back outside, a woman had two dogs in a baby stroller. We’d seen two or three similar looking dogs together often on our trip to Japan, and asked if we could photograph her.
The deer is walking among the stone lanterns at the famous Kasuga Taisha.
We walked back to the train station and returned to Kyoto for dinner.
For a day trip, we took a train from Kyoto south to the ancient capital city of Nara. Nara Park with its deer was interesting! We also visited a number of temples, including the Todaiji Temple, built in 752. After, we took a train back to Kyoto and packed up for tomorrow’s trip north to Narita Airport and the flight home.
