Paso Robles, California
August 22-24, 2019
Although we omitted most of our trips within California (e.g. Napa, LA or San Diego), our short get-away to Paso Robles produced some really cool photographs.
We spent just two nights in the cute central California city of Paso Robles in August 2019. The drive from home took about four hours or so down Highway 101.
As always seems to be the case, we visited the zoo (here the petite Charles Paddock Zoo in Templeton) with its colorful flamingos that afternoon. We also visited the historical displays in the city park.
The next day we spent some time driving around and visiting several wineries and purchasing some of the Rhone varietals the areas is known for. The wine country was lovely and touring more low key than Napa or Sonoma.
That evening we experienced the reason we traveled here, which was to view Bruce Munro’s field of lights installation. We purchased the dinner package which provided us with a picnic dinner and a table from which we could view the installation and watch the lights come into effect as the sun set. The viewing area was to the east and the sun set behind the hills and oak trees to the west of the installation. Here are some photos before it was fully dark.
Once it was fully dark we wandered around mesmerized by the lights. It was a really cool thing to do and we are glad we made the long drive. Here are views of the installation in full darkness.
The next day we drove home with a short stop at the San Miguel Mission.
