We flew via Houston to Oaxaca for four nights, then on to Merida in the Yucatan, and then over to Cancun for the flight home. Click on the map below and see more of where we went.
Bread, in may different forms, is an important component of the diet in Oaxaca. Here is a photo of a section of one purveyor’s goods.
Oaxacan cheese, which has an appearance similar to “string” cheese, is sold in handy multi–kilo bags.
At the public markets in Oaxaca one can admire the staples of Oaxacan cuisine, including different varieties of mole and piles of grasshoppers.
Next—a visit to the city’s principal public square, the Zócalo.
The Asbastos central market in Oaxaca is in a very large covered building. Here one may buy citrus, meat, chiles, corn, squash, tomatoes, beans, cheese, rice, red and black moles, and of course, spicy fried grasshoppers.
