Torino

Torino has several outdoor markets. Porta Palazzo is the largest one in Europe. On sale there were interesting eggplants from Sicily and a fruit called a Mapo, which is a cross between a clementine orange and a grapefruit.
The leaves attest to the freshness of these artichokes.
Lots of kinds of ham and cheese!
This is sedano, which is a very tender celery and has a lot of uses in salads. It is, alas, unavailable in San Francisco.
These photos were taken at Torino’s largest market, which is open six days a week and is very well attended.
Next—Salone del Gusto.
