We arrived at Milan Malpensa after a flight from Newark, and then transferred to Milano Centrale for a train trip to Lucca via Firenze SNM

After spending the first night in Lucca (above), where it was easy to pick up a rental car, we drove across the mountains to Liguria and the Mediterranean. We had visited Lucca before, but still found it an enjoyable city.

On our first day with our rental car, we toured the sunny coast and went to the village of Camogli, on the Portofino promontory. The photos at top are of that city’s harbor and bathing beach.

The map below shows the places we will be visiting.

The main rationale for the two week trip was to go to Slow Food’s “Salone del Gusto” in Torino. Two secondary reasons were to visit Liguria and the wine country in Piemonte. A bit of shopping in Milano is always a possibility.

Next—Recco, not far up the coast and a day trip into the Ligurian mountains.
