Saint-Émilon

Saint–Émilion is a small village built on a small hill in an otherwise flat area near the city of Bordeaux. The stone used to build the village is attractive. Underneath it all are cellars carved out of rock where the fine red wines are stored.
They have a nice lifestyle in the village, which is, naturally, part of a Unesco World Heritage site.
For dinner we had grilled crayfish salad with slices of fried sole in a vanilla–flavored oil; and grilled veal with a nut bouillon. Dessert consisted of raspberries with frangipanne and strawberry millefeuille.
We drove along the Dordogne River on its way to Bordeaux and the Gironde and stopped in St Emilion, a hillside village famous for its fine wine.
Next—Chateaux of the Loire.
