The Pacific Coast

Tuesday, January 22, 2019

We enjoyed ourselves at the Peace Lodge and the Gardens. Staff were all quite helpful and the setting cannot be beat!

Next, a five hour car drive to the Pacific coast and five nights at a beach hotel.

Here is a map showing where we went. We landed at San Jose and drove up north for about an hour to the Gardens. The beach is the palm tree symbol.

Around the hotel the beach is fairly level and smooth.

Several monkeys figured out how to open a window to our room, and they came in, looking for food! Later on, several returned, hoping they can open the window again.

We took a boat tour along a river in Palo Verde National Park and saw quite a number of birds and several crocodiles.

We also had a wildlife tour in a golf cart where we saw monkeys and coati and had a guided walk through a mangrove forest.

High up in a tree, a howler monkey kept its eye on us!

This guy was often near our room.

The view of the hotel from down the beach.

Here is our route back home, via Los Angeles. The distance was 2,964 nautical miles/5,489 kilometers.

We stayed at a beach hotel for five nights. The water was a bit rough for swimming or kayaking, so we toured around and sat on the beach.

Our final morning was taken up with a short drive to the nearby Liberia airport and a flight back to California.
