Shedd, Field & More

Saturday, October 6, 2018

Saturday morning was cold and dreary so we were glad to have indoor activities planned today for the most part.

We took a car to the Shedd Aquarium located near lake Michigan. It is one of the oldest aquariums around. We enjoyed the exhibits including penguins, and watched feeding of beluga whales and a dolphin show.

Above is a sculpture at the aquarium warning against plastic trash in oceans.

We then moved on to the adjacent Field Museum of Natural History.

There were huge dinosaur bones in the entry way, many natural history exhibits, and some archeological pieces, above and to the right. Below is the view out on the lake. It was cold today!

Sunday was the day of the Marathon. We waited until the roads north of the hotel were supposed to be open, and tried to get to the Lincoln Park Zoo. After finding several detours, we told our Uber driver to just take us back to our hotel. We spent the morning wandering around near our hotel and saw many attractive buildings, two examples.

We had lunch in the Chicago branch of Eataly, before heading to the airport for our afternoon flight back to SFO.

We had a great time in Chicago, ate well, enjoyed walking and taking public transport, and vowed to try to return to see the things we missed (like the zoo).
