Sydney

Tuesday–Friday October 25–28, 2005

These animals are not of course Australian. But they do have a nice view of the city from the Sydney Zoo

Transit to and from the Zoo is by ferry from Circular Quay, which looks a bit like the Transbay Terminal in San Francisco.

Right next to Circular Quay is the Opera House. This photo was taken from the ferry as it was leaving the city.

Here is a nice view of the famous Harbour Bridge. There are walking tours up the bridge, and quite a few people take them, but we decided to stay on solid ground. Or on a ferry boat. Much less stressful.

Since the purpose of the trip to Australia was to swim in the ocean and look at coral, we thought it would be a good idea to see what the local fish life is like. So we went to the Sydney Aquarium. Lots of teeth on the fast swimmer.

Sydney is a great city. Here is a photo taken from a ferry of a residential neighborhood on the water. We found the city to be clean and appealing.

We traveled to Sydney to eat at several well–regarded restaurants, visit the zoo and aquarium, and to see the Opera House.

Next—Cairns, Queensland.
